supervision

Supervision is the space where therapists grow, refine their craft, and renew their capacity to care

I am a UKCP Registered Clinical and Training Integrative Supervisor offering supervision across modalities and levels of experience. My  experience spans working as a clinician and assessor across a number of contexts including several years in NHS secondary care working with borderline personality disorder. I now work fully in private practise in central London.

I trained as a UKCP clinical supervisor in 2019 at London's Minster Centre and work with training or qualified and experienced psychotherapists, counsellors or counselling and clinical psychologists. I provide a supportive, open, good humoured and non-judgmental space for supervisees to develop their unique style of practise and ethical stance, where difficulties are appreciated as the fascinating learning opportunities that they are.

As a supervisor I aim to help supervisees grow and develop their own style and capacity to detect, understand and use their appreciation of complex dynamics at play in psychotherapy.  I encourage supervisees to critically appraise these dynamics in light of the cultural (race, ethnicity, faith, sexuality, gender, class, disability etc) differences to help get as close as possible to their client's lived experience and build a deeper more authentic relationship with more sensitive and effective interventions.

I find that containing and managing more challenging work and thus attracting and keeping more complex clients is underpinned by a confident ethical stance and assessment of risk, and I help and encourage supervisees to develop a reflective and informed ethical position in supervision.

Our clinical contexts are an important component of our work, and I understand the often quite difficult pressures of working in NHS, organisational, training, online and private practise environments. I aim to be emotionally and practically supportive to supervisees in creating greater resilience and proactivity in thriving (and often just surviving!) in the face of these challenges.

My broad clinical experience across more serious mental health problems means that supervisees can feel safe bringing the more challenging issues to supervision to which, when required I am happy to offer more directive, technical and educative help.

I draw on a range of techniques and perspectives from attachment, psychodynamic, existential, CAT, MBT, contemporary trauma treatment (Somatic Experiencing), and when required CBT modalities. I also occasionally recommend CPD, books and articles that supervisees may find helpful in growing their unique skills base, as well as offering practical advice in growing their profile and practise.
